The heroes that I choose

Everyone has a hero regardless if this hero is super or not, well, mine are pretty ordinary people.

I could never like a superhero, never did click for me, although I did had the phase that I liked Batman a lot (especially when Azrael took over for Bruce Wayne), still, it never meant to me the same as the heroes that I followed. Ordinary people. People like you and me.

The fact is that I have chosen to follow people that had traits or attitudes that I liked. For example, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, their troubleshooting skills, their attitude on trying to solve an issue or simply experiment has granted an admiration from my side. Mike Rowe, that did Dirty Jobs, didn’t have the fear of getting dirty, and sometimes really dirty, to get a job done, or simply for our entertainment.

They are just a few of a lot of people that I value. Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla, Manu Prakash, some of my co-workers, my father, a late friend, the actor that goes to a children’s hospital to light up the kids day and so many others. All people that have my admiration.

All my heroes have my admiration because one unique trait: they try to make the world around them, and around us, better. It is done by teaching science, by creating a crazy formula, by creating a microscope out of paper, by teaching that life can be dirty but you can deal with it, or simply by teaching something they know.

The heroes that we choose are those who we admire. They don’t necessarily need to be leaders, they can be flawed, they can fail and they not necessarily need to have superpowers.

We live in a troublesome world nowadays. News are hardly good and in times like this, we do need heroes more than ever. Sometimes we need to be the hero and sometimes we need to be saved and that is the beauty of being in a community. Somedays you will be the hero and some days you will be helped, but the fact is, once you are a part of a community you are part of a common goal, a common belief, a common trait.

Be the hero of your community but also ask for help when needed, in the end, we are all here for the same common good.
